Adoption Commitment Print E-mail

The Humane Society was formed in 1927 with the task of preserving life and protecting animals from needless suffering. Over the years, the organization has changed and grown into a leading animal welfare organization in Maryland. In November 2008, the staff of the Humane Society formally resolved to end the practice of unnecessary euthanasia.

As a Humane Society, we are steadfastly committed to the preservation of life beyond just our own walls. Our objective is to not simply reduce instances of unnecessary euthanasia, but to end the practice altogether and to assist other areas in their efforts to achieve the same objective.

Adoption Guarantee

In order to achieve its objective, in November 2008 the Humane Society declared the following Adoption Guarantee:
The Humane Society resolutely affirms that every healthy, adoptable pet that falls within its care will be suitably placed and protected.
As advocates, enthusiasts and humanitarians, we are steadfastly committed to the preservation of life and to the humane treatment of animals. We offer our policies and our standards to promote transparency and objective discussion, and we affirm our adoption guarantee as a statement of our aspiration to achieve the very best for each and every animal that comes to us.
