Does the Humane Society euthanize pets? Print E-mail

Euthanasia is the central issue within animal welfare and must be carefully considered.  The answer is yes, the Humane Society does euthanize pets, however it does so strictly in accordance with the definition of euthanasia.  What does this mean?  It means that the Humane Society does not euthanize due to resource contraints such as space or time.

We follow a very detailed protocol in which there are multiple decision points.  Our process enforces objectivity and accountability.  We do not take euthanasia lightly.

We also perform, as a service to the public, owner-requested euthanasia for pets that, once again, need to be humanely put to sleep in order to end needless suffering due to a medical illness and/or age related issues.
