Fund Raising Code of Ethics Print E-mail

Baltimore Humane Society is a private non-profit animal welfare organization serving Baltimore City, Baltimore County and the state of Maryland at large. Like most non-profits, we hold out our hands every day and ask for help from individuals and organizations that wish to support us.  So what makes us different?  Our fundraising efforts reflect a code of ethics that are predicated on one very simple belief:

We believe that individuals give to the Humane Society do so for no other reason other than to help pets.

We do not believe that our donors give to us for stickers or stuffed toys, or for calendars or trinkets.  We believe that our supporters are smart enough to realize that our solicitations are genuine and reflect not only our needs, but our respect for each donor's support.

Our development efforts are governed by a few key points that we feel should know.

  • We print in black and white because it's cost effective.
  • We utilize one sheet of paper per letter when we ask for support because that is all it should take.
  • We don't use expensive, outsourced mail services.  Our efforts come from staff and from volunteers.
  • And we don't send trinkets.

If you like our code of ethics and want to continue helping, consider sharing this page with a friend and encouraging their support.
