Thursday Night Hikes! Print E-mail

Want to go for a hike with your dog? Or maybe you want to walk one of ours?
Either way, join us during the extra daylight hours each Thursday for our Thursday Night Hikes!

Staff will be on hand to walk with you, give you a tour of the Humane Society’s grounds and discuss the organization’s role in our community. Best of all, you can bring your dog or walk one of ours! Either way, it’s a great chance to get out with man’s best friend and support a tremendous organization.

Hikes take place each and every Thursday
(weather permitting, twitterFollow us on Twitter or facebookFacebook for updates)

Quick Details

When?... Each Thursday (weather permitting), beginning at 6:20pm (please arrive by 6:10 pm)
Where?... Meet at the main Animal Adoption Center at the Baltimore Humane Society
Why?... To enjoy the spring sunlight and spend time with your dog or one of ours, or just to get some much needed exercise!
How Far?... Each hike will vary, but should be around 1.5 miles. We will be hiking in open fields and through the woods so please dress appropriately

Even though we're keeping this real simple, a few simple guidelines must be followed:

  • 1. All hikes are supervised by a Baltimore Humane Society representative. Sorry, there is no hiking without a staff member.

  • 2. If you're walking your own dog, leashes of a maximum length of 6 feet are required and no retractable leashes are allowed.

  • 3. Please let us know if you are coming and whether you would like to walk one of our wonderful dogs or your own! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than noon the day of the hike.

  • 4. If you're bringing your own pet, we respectfully ask that you bring an in kind contribution (click for our wish list) for one of ours. Right now we especially need the every day items like bleach, dish soap and laundry detergent to help keep our dogs happy and healthy while the stay out our shelter.

  • 5. If you want to walk one of our shelter dogs, no need to bring a donation (unless you absolutely want to!). This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than noon the day of the hike.

  • 6. There is a lot of wildlife on our property, so come prepared. This means proper foot attire, exercise clothing, water, etc. In addition, since we are hiking in a rural area, this means that we are bound to encounter bugs.

  • 7. The Baltimore Humane Society shall not be liable for any injury or damage caused accidentally or by any animal on the Humane Society’s property. Owners are solely liable for injuries or damage caused by their dog(s). The owner of any dog is liable for damages suffered by anyone who is bitten by the dog while in a public place.

  • 8. Report all animal bites (regardless of severity) to a staff member of the Baltimore Humane Society immediately before leaving the event or the Humane Society’s property.

  • 9. Dogs must be leashed at all times while on the property of the Baltimore Humane Society (including the parking area, around the buildings and in the memorial park).

  • 10. The Baltimore Humane Society is a non-smoking facility.

  • 11. Children of under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied and monitored closely by a parent or guardian.

  • 12. Food and drinks in glass containers are prohibited; training treats are allowed.

  • 13. You're responsible for your dog... so please bring poop bags!

  • 14. Dogs that are overtly intolerant of humans and/or other dogs are not allowed on the Humane Society’s property. Dogs exhibiting unusually aggressive behavior will be removed from the property at once. If a dog, person or activity is annoying or provoking any other dogs or people, the responsible adult handler must remove the dog from the property.

  • 15. Dogs wearing a spiked, choke and/or pronged collars are prohibited.

  • 18. All dogs must have a rabies tag and personalized I.D. tag affixed to the collar and should be healthy and free from contagious diseases and parasites. Each and every dog must be up to date on vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies)! A rabies certificate is required.

  • 19. For the health and safety of your puppy, no dogs under the age of four months are allowed to use this facility.

  • 20. Dogs with communicable diseases are not allowed on park premises at any time. Dogs with a skin condition will require veterinary certification that the dog is not contagious.

  • 21. No more than two dogs per person. When circumstances dictate, the Baltimore Humane Society may limit the number of dogs for that event or permanently for a particular patron.

  • 22. The Baltimore Humane Society maintains the right to exclude any dog from the event/property that appears to have any behavior or health condition which would compromise the health of other dogs on the property.
