Puppies, puppies everywhere! Blazing the Appalachin Trail to BMORE HUMANE Print E-mail

Gallery belowMost of you have heard about our successful transport last month of 31 puppies and dogs running out of time in a shelter in Tennessee. Well, our community's generous response to those homeless pups has prompted us to do it again. This past weekend, over 40 puppies and 22 adult dogs travelled up the Shenandoah Valley in search of a fabulous Maryland home.

You might wonder why we open our doors to these dogs when we are faced with our own daunting financial and logistical challenges. Here at Baltimore Humane, we believe any life is a life worth saving, not to be limited by geographical boundaries or arbitrary lines on a map. While we wrestle with our own daily struggles, we keep an eye to the larger issues of animal sheltering, welfare, and surplus.

Low-income, rural areas such as eastern Tennessee often lack affordable, accessible spay/neuter services. The result? A surplus of adorable but unplaceable puppies and kittens. Hard-working rural shelters with even the best intentions become overrun with these pets, and find themselves facing issues of overcrowding -- a situation often leading to humane euthansia as a last resort. Even the most heroic of efforts can fail to place puppies in a home when the number of pets outnumbers available households in a county. The staff at this rural Tennessee shelter reached out to us for help, and we responded.

The new puppies have arrived, and will become available over the next several days. However, you can begin applying for them online (details below). Join us and our sheltering friends in Tennessee in our quest to end unnecessary euthanasia and animal suffering.

There are puppies, puppies everywhere, and we want to see them all the way home!

If you or a friend are looking for a puppy, skip the pet store and come see the new faces at Baltimore Humane. If you can not adopt right now, consider volunteering in our Animal Center or giving a donation to aid our efforts. Support our efforts to save lives and BMORE HUMANE!

This is just a small gallery of some of the dogs that arrived.

Pre-Adoption Application Process

Example MenuAdopting a puppy is easy! Unfortunately, a lot of potential adopters will apply all at once, so we encourage you to pre-apply! The process is simple. All you need to do is:

  1. Register with Baltimore Humane by clicking here.
  2. Once you register, login and fill out a dog adoption application (you'll see a link like in the example to the right)
  3. Your submitted application will be reviewed promptly.
  4. We'll give you a call and set up a time for a visit.
The response to our last transport was incredible! However, given the number of responses we received, we will NOT be able to take phone inquiries about these animals. You must complete an online application. Please note keep in mind that:
  • Our normal adoption guidelines apply.
  • The puppies are not available for general visitation. You must complete an application first.
  • Applications are reviewed on a 1st come 1st serve basis. We will receive multiple applications per pet.
  • Filling out an application does not guarantee adoption.
