KellyKat WolfSeptember 25th, 2008This memorial is dedicated to the memory of KellyKat, beloved cat of Allison & George Wolf. (click thumbnail to view larger image) My husband and I saw an ad in the paper for Kelly in October of 2004. She was left at your doorstep after hours with her kittens the previous July and had been blind since she herself was a kitten. We were the only applicants who responded and had an interest in Kelly and once at home and renamed KellyKat, she quickly became part of the family. She was our little angel and was finally put to rest in Septermber 2008 after her brave battle with mouth cancer over three months. We took Kelly in to the vet that June, and a cancerous tumor was found under her tongue. The vet gave her 1-2 months to live. Over the three months after her diagnosis, as the tumor grew, she lost the ability to chew hard food, and wet food needed to be pureed, but she still had her appetite and for the most part was herself. We gave her daily baths as best we could. She loved to lie in the sun and we started to take her for walks outside on a bright pink harness. She loved to listen to birds and squirrels and tried to chase them as if she could see. Because Kelly could not see, she always wanted to be touching us, either laying on us or just extending her back paw to make contact with us. They say that as animals grow sicker they begin to pull away and want to hide; Kelly started to do that by hiding in between our trundle beds or in the closet. She fought as long as she could and once at the vet, she was calm and purred, as if to say, “it’s ok”. We called her our “little sunshine” because that’s what she was – pure sunshine with so much love in her heart. What we'll remember most...
